Future of the Griffith University Mount Gravatt campus

Griffith University has announced it will leave the Mount Gravatt campus in December 2026.

The sporting and community facilities as well as the primary school located on the site will continue to operate as usual.

The site has supported education and community use for many years, and planning is now underway to make sure it continues to do so into the future.

Community and sporting facilities

Community and sporting facilities at the site remain open and available. Griffith University will continue to manage the site, including the community and sporting facilities, during the transition period to December 2026. Tennis Queensland is managing the tennis courts during this time.

Planning is underway to put future arrangements in place that support the ongoing use of these facilities. Planning is guided by 4 key objectives aimed at delivering economic, social and environmental benefits, including preserving the site's community use by retaining existing public spaces and sporting and recreational amenities.

Yarranlea Primary School

Yarranlea Primary School will stay open. The Queensland Government has committed to the continued long-term operation of Yarranlea Primary School, providing certainty for students, staff and families.

Expressions of interest open

The department is inviting expressions of interest to help plan the future use of parts of the Mount Gravatt Campus.

Expressions of interest are being invited for the education and sporting precincts shown on the site map (yellow and orange, respectively). Any sale of these precincts would be contingent on proponents demonstrating a clear commitment to continuing the designated education and sporting uses of these areas.

The bushland precinct (blue) and the Yarranlea Primary School site (pink) are not included in this process. The bushland precinct will remain in state ownership to protect and preserve this area's important natural values and ensure continued public access. The existing internal road network, including the SEQ busway station, will be redesignated as a public roadway.

Expressions of interests open 11 February 2026 and close 13 March 2026.
