Future Industries Flexi-Lab
Flexi-Lab is a common-user mineral processing facility in Mackay where industry can test, refine and scale processing techniques for critical and strategic minerals. The facility features reconfigurable equipment that supports flexible, low-risk pilot trials across a range of processing methods.
Opened in early 2026 and supported by $5.7 million in Queensland Government funding, the facility provides a dedicated environment to bridge the gap between laboratory research and commercial deployment.

Supporting technology development and scale-up
By enabling pilot-scale testing and process optimisation, Flexi-Lab supports the development and demonstration of new and improved mineral processing methods. This capability helps companies increase yields, reduce costs and de-risk investment, while strengthening supply chains and accelerating project development.
It also supports the growth of the emerging new economy minerals sector by providing commercial access to pilot-scale processing capability.
Part of the Resources Centre of Excellence
Flexi-Lab is part of the Resources Centre of Excellence, a not-for-profit organisation established through partnerships between industry, government, education providers, researchers and the community to shape the future of the resources sector. Delivered in two stages, the centre is designed to support both operational training and innovation. Stage one established an underground mine simulation and training environment, while stage two expanded capability through the Future Industries Hub, where Flexi-Lab is located.
