Queensland's gas industry

Gas is a vital energy source for Queensland’s industrial and manufacturing sectors, and essential for our energy transition.

Queensland’s gas industry plays a critical role in global supply, powering industries, businesses, and homes worldwide. As demand for gas grows both nationally and globally, so will Queensland’s gas sector.

Our state has significant resource potential as well as proven natural gas reserves, including both conventional and coal seam gas. The Bowen and Surat basins are key production regions, ensuring reliable and long-term output.

Liquified natural gas (LNG) alone is the state’s second-largest export behind coal, supplying both the export and domestic markets.

Queensland also has world-class infrastructure in close proximity to global export markets, a network of sophisticated workers and service providers, and supply partners ready to connect.

We are taking action to keep our globally competitive gas sector thriving by supporting the development of gas projects, and delivering faster, clearer decisions.
